These meatballs have been a favorite for many people for decades but some are just discovering them. So, if you’re new to this idea of grape jelly and meatballs, hang on for a real treat!
Grape Jelly/ Chili Sauce Appetizer Meatballs (serves at least 2 dozen people. Prep. Time 2-4 hours in the slow cooker)
1 jar grape jelly
2 bottles Heinz Chili Sauce (make sure you don’t accidentally get ketchup or cocktail sauce!)
1 Tb. Worcestershire Sauce
3 lbs. small frozen cooked meatballs (Don’t get the big meatballs! The package has something like 160 in it)
Mix the jelly, chili sauce and Worcestershire in a medium bowl. It doesn’t matter if the jelly is a little lumpy, just mix it together as best you can. Dump the meatballs in the slow cooker. Pour in the sauce and stir to coat. Cook on high 2 hours or on low 4 hours then just keep warm in the pot as the party goes on.
If you like a little spicy sauce, you can add in hot sauce, sriracha or horseradish to taste.
(Honestly, all these years of doing fancy prep. work, coming up with creative dishes, etc. and all I had to do to be a huge hit with the inlaws is to slap together some jars of stuff and a bag of frozen meatballs?! Oh well, the point of cooking is to make people happy, right?)
